Mahendragarh, April 15 (Press ki taquat bureau): The district administrative authorities have convened a meeting of the district road safety and Surakshit School Vahan Policy Samiti in Narnaul town on April 15. This meeting comes after a long gap since the previous one held on December 12. Despite being scheduled multiple times in the past 20 days, it was postponed each time due to administrative reasons.
Interestingly, no effort was made to schedule the meeting in the three months following December 12. The agenda of the meeting highlights the contrasting actions taken by the Regional Transport Authorities (RTA) and traffic police regarding school buses. In February, only six buses were found to be non-compliant with the Surakshit School Vahan Policy, with four being challaned by the RTA and two by the traffic police.
Surprisingly, none of the buses had their permits cancelled or suspended. However, after the recent tragic road accident that claimed the lives of six schoolchildren on April 11, the district authorities have impounded 46 school buses and issued challans to 99 buses in just three days. A total of 284 school buses have been checked so far.
This has raised questions about why such actions were not taken earlier, as it could have potentially prevented the accident. In February, 196 vehicles were challaned for overspeeding and 31 for drunken driving, but no driver’s license was suspended.
