Chandigarh, April 19 (Press ki taquat bureau): The initial phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 commenced on Friday across 102 parliamentary constituencies in 21 states and Union Territories, starting at 7 am and concluding at 6 pm for voters to cast their ballots.
Simultaneously, voting for assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim also began, with Arunachal voting for two Lok Sabha seats and a 60-member Assembly, and Sikkim voting for 32 assembly seats and a single Lok Sabha seat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running for a third term, while the opposition coalition, INDIA, aims to remove him from power in the 2024 elections, which come amidst allegations of corruption against opposition leaders like Arvind Kejriwal.
The opposition parties have accused the ruling BJP of unfair practices, with the Congress party claiming that their accounts were frozen by income tax authorities prior to the elections, as 16.63 crore voters are set to decide the fate of 1625 candidates in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls.
